About

Theater
The Sovereign Majestic Theater, located at 209 North Centre Street, is one of two reverse-screen theaters remaining in the state of Pennsylvania and the sole theater remaining in downtown Pottsville.  Built in 1910, the Majestic Theater is an eclectic style, two-and-a-half story building with a Beaux Arts-classical façade. Opening on Saturday, July 9, 1910, the Sovereign Majestic Theater was the destination for fans of westerns and serials for twenty years, closing its doors in 1930.
Today the Sovereign Majestic Theater is a 224-seat venue for the presentation of professional cultural programs for children and adults. The Sovereign Majestic Theater is located in the heart of the City of Pottsville, the Schuylkill County seat of government, and is a contributing structure within the Pottsville Downtown Historic District, as listed on the State and National Registers of Historic Places.
